Ljubomir SOPKA

 

 

 

Rođen u Novom Orahovu 1950. godine. Gimnaziju završio u Vrbasu, izvesno vreme proveo u Mornaričko-tehničkoj akademiji u Puli, a onda diplomirao na Pravnom fakultetu u Novom Sadu.

 

Nekoliko godina radi na pravnim poslovima u novinskoj i izdavačkoj kući „Ruske slovo", a zatim ostaje i dalje u novinarstvu i izdavaštvu ali kao novinar, urednik, likovni urednik i (naravno) karikaturista i ilustrator.

Zaokretna godina bila je 1980. Tom vremenu pripada i završetak Škole za likovno i grafičko uređivanje novina i časopisa pri SNS-u u Beogradu kao i nešto kasniji boravak (kratko ali veoma upečatljivo volontiranje na animaciji) u „Zagreb-filmu".

Prvu karikaturu objavljuje 1967. godine („Veseli svet" Novi Sad). Zatim slede godine oscilacija u ozbiljnosti angažovanja, u prvom redu nalazeći se izmedu likovnog, novinarskog i literarnog angažmana.

Clan UPIDIV-a od 1987. godine. Zaposlen (posle „Ruskog slova" i Zavoda za udžbenike) u privatnoj firmi „Milen" (Subotica i Novi Sad), kao dizajner.

 

 

 

SAMOSTALNE IZLOŽBE

 

Prva samostalna izložba karikatura godine 1987. u Zagrebu; izložba ilustracija za slikovnicu u galeriji „Forma" Novi Sad (1988); izložba karikatura u galeriji „Forma" (1988); izložba karikatura u Ruskom Krsturu (1989); izložba karikatura u Galeriji „Klub 24" Kulturnog centra Novog Sada; najnovija, izložba karikatura u Čitaonici u novosadskoj Dunavskoj ulici (1995).

 

 

GRUPNE IZLOŽBE

 

 

U poslednjih petnaestak godina ucestvovao na pedesetak izložbi karikatura kolektivnog karaktera, prvenstveno konkursima, ali i prigodnim, dobrotvornim i sličnim izložbama u zemlji i inostranstvu.

Godišnja nagrada (za karikaturu) Udruženja novinara Vojvodine za 1985. godinu; Specijalna nagrada na Antiratnom salonu karikature u Kragujevcu (1985); Specijalna nagrada Svetske galerije karikatura u Skoplju (1986); Povelja na jugoslovenskom konkursu „Komunikacije '87", a treća nagrada na konkursu „Komunikacije '88" u Beogradu; Druga nagrada Svetske galerije u Skoplju (1988); Prva nagrada na konkursu Društva srpsko-japanskog prijateljstva, Beograd (1991); Prva nagrada za umetničku interpretaciju logo-a časopisa (za karikaturu) „Witty World" North Wales (USA) 1995; Specijalna nagrada na Svetskoj galeriji u Skoplju (1995).

Ljubomir Sopka pripada stvaraocima za koje je umetnost i životno opredeljenje i profesija. Po završetku pravnog fakulteta, jedno vreme radi u profesiji za koju se obrazovao, da bi vrlo brzo zakoračio u svet umetnosti. Prvo kao novinar, a potom kao pisac, a osamdesetih godina se u potpunosti posvećuje karikaturi i ilustraciji. U to vreme radi u „Ruskom slovu" u Novom Sadu, ali istovremeno njegove karikature gotovo svokodnevno objavljuje i novosadski „Dnevnik". To ga ne sprečava da sarađuje i sa ostalim visokotiražnim listovima i časopisima u zemlji, pa povremeno i u svetu, učestvuje na konkursima i izložbama karikatura, kako to čine mnogi jugoslovenski stvaraoci sa zavidnim uspehom.

Međutim, Sopka se izdvaja osobenim izrazom i bogatstvom vizuelnog jezika, specifičnim ideogramom. Otuda je njegov izraz prepoznatljiv, građen i obogaćen novim istraživanjima u kojima prihvata određena rešenja vec viđena u građenju kompozicije ali ih nadgrađuje ili razgrađuje dajući time novi, svoj izraz. Upravo onako kako je to činio sedamdesetih godina na početku svog rada. Nemirnog duha i retke istrajnosti uspeo je da posve samostalno pronikne u gotovo sve tajne likovnog izraza i dosegne vrednosti koje su vredne pažnje i divljenja.

 

 

Opredelio se za mnogo teži put stvaranja koji ne iskljucuje ideju, komentar ili stav na određene događaje ili pojave kao presudne i gde je likovni izraz u drugom planu, već za stvaranje ilustracije definisane ambijentom, određene grafičke strukture i često nadgrađene akcentom boje.

Sopkin osobeni intelektualni pristup karikaturi rozumljiv je kada se zna da je po obrazovanju (a jedan period i po profesiji) pravnik, zatim da je uspešni prozni pisac sa do sada tri objavljene knjige, a njegov bogati i složeni stil crtanja lakše ćemo shvatiti ako znamo za njegovu životnu želju da se bavi animiranim filmom. Sopkine karikature pune su priče, sporednih epizoda i zapleta, što sve nije u klasičnoj tradiciji karikature kao krajnje svedenog iskaza. Takođe njegov stil nagoni da duže gledamo u jedan rad i malo se pomučimo dok, kao u nekom rebusu, nađđemo poentu, koja je opet, dvosmislena ili trosmislena, i nije uvek smešna.

Zapažamo da on pridaje izuzetnu važnost likovnom izgledu karikature, što je dosta retka pojava. Puno pažnje poklanja ornamentima, najsitnijim detaljima, senkama, a kada radi u boji, onda tu nalazimo najfinije prelaze nijansi i gotovo umetničku ekspresivnost.

Ljubomir SOPKA

 

Born in Novo Orahovo, 1950 graduated from High school in Vrbas. Some time attended Naval- technical academy in Pula, later graduated from Law university in Novi Sad.
Several years worked as a lawyer in newspaper-publishing house ,,Ruske slovo", later stayed in journalism and publishing as journalist, editor and fine arts editor, and (of course) as caricaturist and illustrator.


The turning point was in 1980 when he completed School of art and graphic lay out of newspapers, magazines and books within SNS in Belgrade; as well as later stay as a volunteer (shortly but very impressively) on animation in ,,Zagreb-film".


First caricature published in 1967 (,,Veseli svet", Novi Sad). Then come the years of different approach to the occupation, mostly wondering between arts, journalism and literature.


Member of UPIDIV (designer's association of Vojvodina) since 1987. Employed (after ,,Ruske slovo" and Textbooks publishing Institute) in private company ,,Milen" (Subotica and Novi Sad) as a designer.

Ljubomir Sopka is one of the creators to whom art is life determination and profession in the same time. After the graduation from Law university, he worked briefly in profession he was educated for, but he got into the world of art very fast. First as a journalist, than as a writer, and finally in the eighties, he completely dedicated himself to caricature and illustration. In that time he was employed in ,,Ruske slovo" in Novi Sad, but his caricatures were published in daily newspaper ,,Dnevnik" almost every day. He also worked for other high circulating newspapers and magazines in country, and periodically abroad. He took part in competitions and caricature exhibitions as well as other Yugoslav creators, with enviable success.
But Sopka distinguishes himself with his remarkable expression and richness of visual language, specific ideogram. That is why his expression is recognized, built and enriched with new researches in which he accepts some solutions already seen in composition building, but also adds onto or raises them, putting his own expression; just like he used to do in the beginning of his work in the seventies. Turbulent temperament and unusual persistence helped him to find out almost all of the secrets of fine arts expression and reach the values which are worthy of attention and admiration.

He decided to work in a more difficult way which do not exclude the idea, comment or attitude to some events or occurrences, as decisive, where art expression is in second plan, but to create the illustration with define surroundings, define graphic structure often added onto the color accent.

Sopka's special intellectual approach to caricature is understandable if we know that he was educated for (and was by profession) a lawyer, and that he is successful writer with t hree books published by now. We will understand his rich and compound drawing style easier if we know that he always wanted to dedicate himself to film animation. His caricatures are full of story, sporadic episodes and plots, which do not consist in classical drawing tradition.
His style also drives us into longer looking at one work and putting bigger efforts, as in some enigma, trying to find the main point which is ambiguous and not always funny.

We can see that he pays more attention to the art appearance of caricature, which is very rear occurrence. Also pays more attention to ornaments, the smallest details, shadows and, when works in colors, the finest transitions of nuances and has almost artistic expressivity.
